In which I shall explain my reasoning for why things are named as they are.
First of all, my Chinese name: 安 宇 (Ānyǔ).
It does not translate particularly well, but the first character (an) has to do with peace and security, the second (yu) to do with space, a room, or the universe. There were a number of reasons that I liked this name. It sounds like my American nickname, Anya. The second character was part of my Chinese little sister's name. It also is relatively easy to write.
Second of all, the blog: Xiaowei in Narnia.
Xiaowei is not a Chinese word; it's part of a dialect called Min Nan Yu, which was the local language of Xiamen where I spent a semester studying. It means "crazy," which seems like an apt description of myself and the adventures that I and friends tend to get into in China. There is a word for "crazy" in Chinese, but xiaowei is what I picked up to call people more affectionately if I am teasing them about being crazy.
Narnia because where I am teaching is way far north, and I am trying to wrap my mind around learning to love the cold. And to remember that it's all Aslan's country. :)
Third and finally, the header: 他 强, 他 做 好。
A few months ago a friend said to me, "He is strong, he will do what is good."
Which I know is true and I know that I need to be reminded of.
